Apple app install message "Apple could not verify is free of malware""
What to do when an Apple app won't install
On occasion, when installing a new application or an existing app updates, you may receive an error message along the lines of "Apple could not verify [app] is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy." or "Malware blocked and moved to trash." Here's what can be done:
-
VERIFY THE APPLICATION YOU ARE UPDATING OR INSTALLING IS LEGITIMATE
- The error messages happen because Apple is unable to verify the publisher of the application
- This message can prevent the installation of legitimate applications
- This also prevents the installation of illegitimate software and malware
- If you aren't sure, reach out to ITS
Run the installer again and wait until you get the error message
Open System Settings
Click Privacy & Security
Scroll down to the bottom
Click the Open Anyway button
Run the installer again
You may need to repeat these steps for the installer to run
